The Final Exam Field trip
For the Chagrin Falls High School digital photography class, the final exam was taken at the Mansfield Reformatory and Kingwood Gardens. Students captured their photographs by adjusting their ISO, aperture, and shutter speed, as well as taking pictures in different light to create a certain mood and interesting composition. Unfortunately, It was harder at the gardens because of the pouring rain but students worked with it instead of against it. With the rain, it created more detailed pictures like flowers with raindrops, or puddles on a brick pathway. Also, students ventured into the garden and all the little spaces in the reformatory to obtain interesting subjects. Furthermore, from one of the students on the field trip, Liv Hausarman tells about her experience by saying "It was a fun and good way to learn how to get interesting pictures and in depth compositions while still having the camera focused on a subject".
The first place we stopped was the Mansfield Reformatory. This was a prison built in 1886 and was in use until 1990 when the federal court ordered it to be closed because of its inhumane conditions. Furthermore, all of the original architect in the prison was Levi T. Scofield, who is from Cleveland, although the creation and construction of the whole building was from F.F. Schnitzer. Also, this was the destination where the hit movie, Shawshank Redemption was filmed and several other shows creating fame for the Reformatory.
The class also traveled to Kingwood Gardens. This was a gorgeous garden with many different types of flowers displaying seasonal plantings and annual tulips. Walking through you can also find woodland, terrace, herb and perrenial gardens with different displays of flowers and plants.
